Material characteristics of stone sculptures

Natural texture
Marble: with delicate texture and strong translucency, it is suitable for expressing the softness of human skin (such as Michelangelo's "David").
Granite: high hardness, weather resistance, commonly used for outdoor large-scale sculptures (such as monuments, architectural decorations).
Limestone: easy to carve, but with weak durability, suitable for indoor or mild climate environments.
Sandstone: With natural texture and soft colors, it is commonly used for historical architectural reliefs.
durability
Natural stone can resist wind and rain erosion, UV aging, and have a lifespan of hundreds or even thousands of years (such as the sculpture fragments of the Parthenon in ancient Greece).
Weight and stability
The density of stone is high, and the sculpture has a high self weight, requiring a solid foundation support, but it also has stability against wind and impact.
Color and texture
The pattern and color difference of each stone are unique, and artists need to "tailor their art to the material" to transform natural defects into creative inspiration (such as using stone patterns to depict animal hair).
